pH dependence of anthocyanin-based lake pigments

In this print, eight different modifiers, seven of which adjust the pH, were mixed into black hollyhock, black knight scabiosa and Hopi black sunflower lake pigment-derived watercolors. These plants, which contain anthocyanins, are known to be very pH-sensitive. The lake pigments themselves, while all gray, take on different warm and cool shades of the color. All lake pigments were made by Annelise Gorensek-Benitez between September 2024 and September 2026.
